About Hyland Estates

The historic Hyland Vineyard lies in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range near McMinnville, Oregon. First planted in 1971, Hyland is one of Oregon’s oldest and most storied vineyards, spanning over 200 acres in vine. Walking Hyland’s rows is like taking a tour through the history of Oregon viticulture, with plantings marking many of the major developments in grape-growing: from the implementation of the devigorating Scott Henry trellis system in the 80’s, to the introduction of the Dijon clones in the 90’s. However, most telling are the old, gnarled vines that represent some of the best preserved plantings of self-rooted Coury, Wadenswil, and Pommard clones in Oregon, as well as some of the first Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay and Riesling vines planted in the state.
Upon purchasing the vineyard in 2007, Laurent Montalieu, Danielle Andrus Montalieu and John Niemeyer have devoted their work to the gentle stewardship of the land to ensure this historic vineyard continues to be the epitome of old vine, terroir-driven grape production. The boutique brand of Hyland Estates is the culmination of 40 year-old vines and 60 years of wine-growing experience and exclusively crafts Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the oldest and finest blocks in the vineyard.
