The Bergström Vineyard Pinot Noir is our flagship single vineyard Pinot Noir. Our first estate vineyard, planted in 1999, located in the red volcanic Jory soils of the Dundee Hills. This wine is usually one of our more cellar-worthy Pinot Noirs sometimes taking two or three years after bottling to fully blossom and unfurl its potential.

The 2013 Bergström Vineyard Pinot Noir is vibrant ruby in color with pink reflections and has aromas of pipe tobacco, dark chocolate, citrus oils, savory herb garden, black cherries, and mint. There is sweet bright crunch of fruit in the mouth with succulent mouthwatering acidity which drives this wine’s energy. This wine possesses a core of dark red fruits and sweet spices in the mid palate with very fine dusting of sweet tannins and a long finish. A very unique but special bottling from this great vineyard site.

Behaving much more like a young Burgundy, this great Oregon Pinot Noir should be consumed between 2017 and 2025, but could drink well for two decades or more.

The 2016 Laurène is a textbook expression of our Dundee Hills estate. Deep ruby red in color, the wine conveys detailed aromatics of dark cherry, spice, and a very discrete note of oak. It is densely knit, with dark fruit on the entry moving towards clove, white pepper and blackberry bramble. The finish has extraordinary length and depth, lasting well beyond each sip. Truly a wine for the cellar, in proper conditions the 2016 Laurène will last for 5-15 years at a minimum.

A blend of eight barrels with 30% new French oak results in a moderate oak impact, allowing the vineyard’s personality to shine. Aromas of ripe, red berries, subtle red apple, and fig are supported by hint of floral peony, cigar box, and barrel spice. Structured tannins frame a medium body and are highlighted by youth-preserving acidity, all contributing to a long, balanced finish. Flavors mirror the aroma and transition from red fruited cherry and cranberry to more savory notes as the wine opens up. This wine reflects the power of the 2014 vintage and will be rewarding to enjoy through 2022.

In addition of our traditional marriage of the Estate Rambouillet Vineyard and the Thistle Vineyard we are introducing our Estate Lillie’s Vineyard into the blend. The inclusion of Lillies Vineyard in this blend adds a lovely black pepper note on the aromatics, in addition to the sweet tobacco, white flowers, cardamon, fresh herbes de provence and sassafras. On the palate we find nice weight up front carrying into the mid-palate. There are notes of earth followed by wafts of wood smoke. Although it seems light on its feet, there is a richness throughout its sweet core.

Located in the heart of Dundee Hills and “around the corner” from Élevée is Briar Rose Creamery, a small, artisan cheese maker. Their award winning cheese can be found in local farmers markets, as well as specialty grocery stores in Oregon. And how lucky we are to hand select three of their delectable cheese to pair with our wines.

While Rosé is now a year-round wine, to us, there is no better way to celebrate summer than drinking our “Three Martin” Rosé. It’s blush pink color hints of strawberry and melon and bright acidity is perfect pairing with Callisto. This is an Alpine style, semi-firm cow’s milk with notes of sour cream, preserved lemon, brown mustard, shiitake mushrooms, brown buttered popcorn. The Ridgecrest Vineyard Riesling, gives you honeysuckle and peach. It is excellent with Damona, a semi-soft cow’s milk with hints of buttered toast, green olives and panna cotta. And the highlight of this pairing is the 2015 Élevée Vineyard Pinot noir. We pulled these wines out of our library because of how well it pairs with Butterbaby. This cheese is a soft bloomy, cow’s milk cheese. It is super soft with delicate, thin, fluffy white rind. Texture is custardy and taste of warm buttermilk, creamed corn, papaya, oyster mushrooms and crème fraiche.

For areas between Portland and Salem, we will provide complementary delivery of wine and cheese packs on the week of May 25th. For all other areas, please contact us to make arrangements. Haakon/Lenai Pinot Noir

Purple Hands owners Cody and Marque Wright have introduced a new brand called Haakon/Lenai. While separate from Purple Hands, the wine is still crafted by Cody and focuses on the estate vineyards in the Dundee Hills and Ribbon Ridge AVAs. Haakon/Lenai is a small-production pursuit of world class Pinot Noir (and soon Chardonnay), inspired by and named for Cody and Marque’s two children.

For the month of May, the debut Haakon/Lenai bottling (2018 Imprint Pinot Noir – only 100 cases made) will be available through the Purple Hands website or at the Urban Winery/Tasting Room in Dundee. Purchases of three or more bottles will be reduced in price by 25% – no other discounts apply. This offer ends May 31, 2020.

2017 Olson Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir – $60

Our estate vineyard, planted in 1972 brings us wines of complexity and elegance and the 2017 vintage is no different. Winemaker Jacques Tardy blended Dijon, Pommard, and Wadenvil clones from the vineyard and aged the wine for 22 months in 5% new French oak. This complex wine emerges with aromas of violet, cherries and blueberry. Bright on the palate, flavors are sweet with concentrated dark berry notes and rich chocolate, leading to a long and elegant finish of earthiness and a light touch of oak.

The wine is ready to drink now, but will be worth the wait with 6 or more years of cellaring.
